Another 50 car parks are being created at Queenstown Airport as part of its short-term infrastructure improvement programme.
Work began on Friday on the short and long-term car-parking facilities, due for completion by November 29, and on an expansion of the commercial zone allowing for pick-up and drop-offs for commercial operators.
That work will be complete by October 27.
Airport corporation chief executive Colin Keel said car-parking rates in the long-term car park had been reduced until November 3 due to the potential inconvenience.
``The airport has experienced phenomenal growth, with a 38% rise in passenger numbers over the past three years alone.
``This growth has presented us with a range of opportunities and challenges, including the increased need for car parking.''
The work was a ``prelude'' to the airport's long-term strategy on traffic management and road transport solutions, which would improve traffic flow and further increase parking options, he said.
