Work has started on a $170,000 project to replace one of Queenstown Bowling Club's greens.

The old turf, on the south side of the clubhouse, was removed last week and Australian company Berry Bowling Systems will install the new surface over the next fortnight.

Clubhouse manager Wayne Dowman (right) said the new green should be ready for use at the end of the month.

The club received funding for the project from Central Lakes Trust, SkyCity, the Community Trust of Southland and by hosting a business bowls competition.
