Visiting choir enjoys jet-boat ride

Ugandan orphans and guardians of the touring Watato Children's Choir took to the waters of Queenstown for a Kawarau Jet boat trip on Friday afternoon, before their free community performance in St Andrew's Church, that evening.

Moses Kisasa described the scenic jet-boat ride around Queenstown as "really exciting". The 12-year-old singer and dancer was among the group of 22 young choristers and nine adults who laughed and clapped with delight during their complimentary excursion on board a pair of 22-seater Kawarau Jet boats.

The ensemble enjoyed the trip before they performed for the public in St Andrew's Church, on Friday evening.

The choir of children, aged between 7 and 15, and adult choristers sang African gospel songs in Ugandan and English for Wakatipu residents during their hour-and-20-minute set.

The children were sponsored by both the charity Watato Child Care Ministries and New Zealanders through Tear Fund.

The cost of their fundraising tour of the country was offset by donations and by choristers selling arts and crafts made by Ugandan women living with HIV.
