Two hurt in motorcycle crash near Queenstown

Two people have been injured in a motorcycle crash near Queenstown on the same highway which has claimed three lives in the past month.

Police said the single vehicle collision took place at about 8.30am on State Highway 6, near Jacks Point, between Queenstown and Kingston.

The motorcyclist and a passenger came off the bike after it hit a traffic cone.

An ambulance was already at the scene before police arrived at about 8.44am. 

The rider was left with serious injuries and taken to Lakes District Hospital in Queenstown, before being flown to Dunedin Hospital. 

The passenger had minor to moderate leg injuries and was taken to Lakes District Hospital by ambulance.
