Mr Scott (48) has been a Queenstown resident for 11 years, after moving from Alexandra with his family to work for Fulton Hogan.
On Thursday former deputy mayor Simon Hayes, a real estate agent, announced he would be standing, while Cr Vanessa Van Uden has also announced her nomination.
Mr Scott has worked in the roading industry for 15 years and is now employed by QLDC contractor DownerEDI as the company's inspections programmer.
However, if he was successful in his bid to win the mayoralty, he would resign from that post.
"That's how committed I am to it - I'm not coming into it half-heartedly and I've got full support from work. There is no conflict of interest."
Mr Scott, who lives at Lake Hayes Estate, is married to Lynley, a customer support services representative for the QLDC and has two children, Lauren (13) and Ben (11), both at Wakatipu High School.
He has been an active Volunteer Fire Brigade member for 25 years, at present volunteering for the Arrowtown Volunteer Fire Brigade; is a member for the Lake Hayes Estate Community Association; and has been a coach of Wakatipu junior rugby for the past five years, this year coaching the U12 team.
