Albonie Flanagan’s putting on the Ian Flanagan Remembrance Golf Charity Day at the Kelvin Heights course next Friday.
It’s a fundraiser for Mike King’s I Am Hope, and will be raising money to help youth get free counselling sessions.
Last year’s tournament raised about $20,000 for an Irish charity that repatriated Ian’s body.
So far 15 teams of four have paid $1000 each to enter the Ambrose-format tournament.
It’ll be followed by an auction and raffle distribution thanks to many businesses’ generous donations.
I Am Hope is donating some raffle and auction items, and partnership manager Mana Ashford is bringing along gumboots golfers have to wear when teeing off at the ninth hole — he’ll have four different sizes. (Gumboot Friday’s a sister charity.)
Albonie’s also started an Ian Flanagan Remembrance Golf Charity Day Givealittle page to cover the costs of organising the tournament.
