A new film by artist Grahame Sydney, Dreaming of Eldorado: the old Dunstan Rd, will launch next year's Festival of Colour in Wanaka.

The premiere of Sydney's documentary is among five festival works being presented to audiences for the first time.

The other premieres are Witches Over Wanaka, by Flat Out Productions of Hawea Flat and directed by Stuart Devenie; composer Mike Nock's Southern Suite, a piano duet to be performed by Michael Houstoun and Diedre Irons; choreographer Raewyn Hill's Finders Keepers; and playwright Dave Armstrong's Le Sud.

Festival director Philip Tremewan announced the premieres at a recent function.

Meanwhile, the festival has invested in a new ticketing system to make it easier to book seats for the April event. Internet sales will be possible.

Tickets will go on sale to patrons and sponsors on February 12 and to the general public on February 23.

Prices have been set at $32 for main bill events and $10 for advance sales of daytime concerts and speakers.

The organisers will hold back 100 tickets for each of the daytime sessions to sell on the door for $5.

The festival runs from April 28 to May 3.
