The second annual Arrowtown Spring Arts Festival was a big success, festival co-organiser Julie Hughes said

``It was very well attended - I'd say numbers at the Sunday market were triple last year [and] classes were really full.''

The new ``speakers series'', which involved artist Grahame Sydney and poet Brian Turner; writers Lisa Scott and John Lapsley, who were interviewed by Otago Daily Times cartoonist Garrick Tremain; and artist Graham Brinsley, was a particular highlight, with about 80 people attending each of the four events, while Lee Van der Geest's wire workshop sold out, Mrs Hughes said.

Saturday's community concert, another new event, was also a hit.
