Judge Geoff Rea has reserved his decision following a multi-day, judge-alone trial into the death of a Queenstown skier at Coronet Peak in 2019.
Anita Graf (60) died on September 21, 2019, after skiing into an unprotected post of a double-height deer fence, at the bottom of one of the skifield’s runs.
A year after the incident, skifield owner NZSki was charged by WorkSafe with failing to ensure the health and safety of any person, including Ms Graf, which exposed her to a risk of serious injury or death.
WorkSafe alleged the company should have carried out an adequate risk assessment of the fence and installed "safety catch net fencing" along its full length at the bottom of Sugar’s Runs.
The charge carries a maximum penalty of $1.5 million.
The trial began last week and concluded on Thursday.
