"If we’re in it, we’re in it to win it," says Miss Brentwood (29), one half of the brother and sister Brentwood Duo who featured on New Zealand TV screens on Saturday night.
"Once we got through the audition and we knew they wanted us to be there, we made that our goal."
Their audition earned a rapturous response from the talent show’s judges and live audience.
They are amazed by the attention they are getting on mainstream and social media.
"We knew there was going to be a good reaction, but I think we both underestimated the scale of it," Mr Brentwood (26) said.
"We’ve never experienced anything like this. It’s been crazy."
Miss Brentwood said the home support was "lovely".
"We’re really happy to be making Central Otago proud."
The first three episodes were screened in New Zealand in a three and a-half hour programme on TV3 on Saturday.
The pair were glad New Zealanders had finally got the opportunity to see their episode and learn about the circumstances surrounding their audition, she said.
Mr Brentwood said performing in front of a studio audience, 20 television cameras and three "megastar" judges had been "nerve-racking".
Although unable to give away too much about their future on the show, it was safe to say they had progressed to the intensive training sessions known as ‘‘boot camp’’.
