Construction of Wakatipu High School's new Frankton campus is on time and budget, the Ministry of Education says.

Head of education infrastructure services Kim Shannon said the building was expected to be completed by late December, ready for the school to move from its Gorge Rd site for term 1 next year.

''The wet, cold weather slowed us a bit on the exterior facade works, but we had most of the roof on and a lot of the windows in by the time winter came on, so that helped us get through the winter months with minimal delays,'' Ms Shannon said.

Work was now focused on the installation of above-ceiling services.

Building on the 7ha site in Remarkables Park began last October.

With capacity for 1800, the school will be the second-largest in Otago and Southland, after Invercargill's James Hargest College.
