A new roundabout has been approved for State Highway 6, between Hanley’s Farm and Kelvin Heights, to service the under-construction Park Ridge subdivision.

Previously known as Coneburn, Park Ridge is a 632-section subdivision on a 48ha greenfield site, proposed by businessman Don MacLachlan.

It was the 11th and last housing proposal in Queenstown Lakes approved by the Government as a special housing area.

Mr MacLachlan said Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency had given the company approval to proceed with the construction of the new roundabout into the subdivision and Scope Resources quarry, from the state highway.

Paul Horrell, of main contractor Civil Construction, said work on the developer-funded roundabout, which was a requirement of the consent issued in September 2020, was expected to be completed by next April.

Speed restrictions and traffic management would be in place, and a diversion road around the construction site would also be in use.

Mr MacLachlan said the roundabout would provide safe access for Park Ridge residents on what was already a busy highway.

The first stage of the residential development, including infrastructure and roading, and a commercial precinct, including a daycare centre and community amenities, would be developed over the coming year.
