The Dunedin Bonnie Brawlers beat Queenstown Roller Derby 171-149 in a thriller at the Queenstown Events Centre on Saturday night.

Queenstown player-coach Kate Robinson said the lead changed often, until Dunedin "pipped us at the post".

Queenstown had only eight skaters at the end, after getting into foul trouble, she said.

It was the teams' first clash this year in the Southland Sushi Shield series.
