A 300m section between the Invincible and Muddy Creeks, 18km north of Glenorchy, was washed out on January 30 and 31.
Queenstown Lakes District Council senior engineer Andrew Edgar said the project, expected to take a week, had been delayed by "complications around working in an active river bed", which required discussions with the Otago Regional Council, and special equipment was unavailable.
Although the road remains closed to the public, Rees Valley Station owner-manager Kate Scott said station operations were not greatly affected because vehicles could still get through.
