Developers behind plans for a new resort complex near Arrowtown made their case to planning commissioners in Queenstown yesterday for a new road across rural land.
Waterfall Park Developments Ltd wants to build a hotel, restaurants, a day spa and "wellness retreat" at Waterfall Park, a steep-sided valley between Arrowtown and Lake Hayes.
It has submitted two resource consents, one for the development and one for a road to serve it and adjacent land now zoned rural general, located mostly within Ayrburn Farm.
The road would run from Arrowtown-Lake Hayes Rd through rural general zoned land.
The hearing is expected to continue today and will then be adjourned. Hearing commissioners will advise parties of their decision at a later date.
The company is owned by Chris and Michaela Winton's Winton Partners Ltd. They are behind several developments across Queenstown Lakes including Bridesdale special housing area and Lake's Edge in Queenstown, and Northlake in Wanaka.
Winton Partners general manager Oliver Leighs said last week the Waterfall Park development would allow public access to a spectacular waterfall.
The restoration of stone farm buildings on Ayrburn Farm would be central to the development, he said.
