Hip-hop grannies, a ballet dancer, bike riding and the man in red combined their talents yesterday to entertain children in the resort during the annual Christmas show.

This year, about 30 children took to the stage at the Queenstown Events Centre in a smorgasbord of performances as part of the 12 Bells of Christmas, written and directed by resort residents Lisa Moore and Margaret O’Hanlon.

The Remarkables Men’s Ballet was replaced by the hip-hop grannies, which included former Queenstown Lakes Mayor Vanessa van Uden and the Queenstown Lakes District Council’s Jan Maxwell.

At the beginning of the performance, Shotover Jet, the main sponsor of the show, presented a cheque for $10,792 to St John Wakatipu.

The money was raised during Shotover Jet’s locals weekend and would go towards the cost of a new $160,000 ambulance for the area, which should be operational in the next  12 months.
