Queenstown Lakes District Council staff have recommended reducing the land area, and ultimately the number of houses, should Ladies Mile be opened to development under special housing area rules.
In his report to today's council meeting, planning practice manager Blair Devlin said staff had further considered public feedback and the ''value placed on the rural character currently experienced when passing Lake Hayes and climbing the hill on to the Ladies Mile''.
Subsequently, a change was proposed to the indicative master plan to ''pull'' development back on the northern side of Ladies Mile, away from Threepwood.
''The change would see the area of development pulled to the west some 305m, to line up with an existing hedgerow.
''The reduction would reduce the overall yield from approximately 2815 [dwelling units] to 1957.''
