Balloons streamers, cake and the sound of paper horns greeted a family of four from Hamilton at Queenstown Airport this morning, which included the two millionth passenger to the resort for the year.
Renee Brunton was travelling with her family - husband Tony and children Brooke (6) and Ward (3) on flight NZ613 from Auckland, which dotted down just after 10.10am.
She found out she was the lucky passenger after an in-flight announcement by Air New Zealand crew.
Mrs Brunton was given a gift from the airport by Queenstown Lakes Mayor Jim Boult, and was also met by Queenstown Airport chief executive Colin Keel and Queenstown Airport
Corporation board chairwoman Prue Flacks, as well as a host of representatives from the airport community, were all with balloons, streamers and noise makers.
It is the first time Queenstown Airport has reached the two million milestone in a calendar year - it's believed the airport welcomed the one millionth passenger for the first time in a calendar year in 2012.
