A 23-year-old man has been charged over a "one-punch" assault in Queenstown, while police still hunt for his alleged accomplice.
Sergeant Steve Watt said the 23-year-old's friend pushed a stranger, who was walking past the pair, to the ground at around 1am on Saturday in the mall, in the CBD.
The victim tried to get off the floor, before he was punched in the back of the head and knocked unconscious by the 23-year-old.
He was taken to Lakes District Hospital for observation, Sgt Watt said, and it appears the victim did not sustain other injuries.
The two offenders ran away from the scene. Police located the man who threw the punch, but they are still looking for the other alleged offender.
The incident was likely to be caught on CCTV footage, Sgt Watt said.
