In this week's Join the Club, Christina McDonald talks to Jack Gilbert, formerly of the Queenstown Hockey Club.

Playing hockey since he was a 5-year-old in Queenstown has led Jack Gilbert to the national under-21 tournament, in which his southern team came fourth.

The former Wakatipu High School student, now studying at the University of Otago in Dunedin, is also in a southern under-18 team with a tournament coming up - but since he is 18, this will be his last.

Last week, he was back in Queenstown helping coach younger members of his former club, the Queenstown Hockey Club.

''I played for Queenstown teams all the way up until this year.''

The Queenstown club has about 100 members and multiple men's, women's and children's teams.

Competitions are held between the Central Otago clubs.
