Hundreds of people enjoyed the community open day in the Queenstown Events Centre yesterday. Reporter James Beech attended with his camera.

Lakes Leisure provided indoor rock-climbing, hula-hooping, ball games and "Gruffalo-themed"arts and crafts, as well as a pool party, a dunking machine and free hydroslide rides for youngsters.

Adults explored the pool and gym and tried group fitness classes, including body pump, Zumba, RPM and yoga.

Gold coin entry donations were given to the New Zealand Red Cross Earthquake Appeal.

Operations and aquatics manager Steve Richens said the open day was for all the community, with an emphasis on attracting families who would not usually visit the centre.
