An American businessman is in the running to buy Hunter Valley Station on the shores of Lake Hawea.
The Otago Daily Times has not been told the man's name but he is considered to be "reasonably well known''.
The Overseas Investment Office confirmed to the ODT last week it had received an application for consent from "overseas interests'' for the purchase of the station.
Representatives from community organisations will meet on Monday to thrash out a deal over public access through the station, if the purchase goes ahead. The meeting will be run by a mediator.
The current lessees, Taff and Pene Cochrane, have been at loggerheads with the Queenstown Lakes District Council over public use of Mead Rd, which runs through the station to the Department of Conservation camping ground at Kidds Bush.
The 6468ha station has a capital value of $13.2million.
