They're not shouting it from the rooftop, but a Queenstown roofer has become a generous benefactor over the past two and a-half years.

Freeman Roofing’s local branch gives away $1000 to a deserving local charity or individual every three months.

It’s run through the company’s John Archer Community Sponsorship Programme, named after the generous-minded director who helped grow Freeman Group into New Zealand’s largest family-owned roofing company and who passed away in 2020 after battling cancer.

Local branch manager Brad Rule says they’ve donated to causes as wide-ranging as Lakes District Air Rescue Trust, Hanley’s Farm community garden, the Cancer Society and the Branches Camp charitable trust.

Currently they’re asking customers who visit their Glenda Dr office to vote between Wakatipu High School Foundation, Whakatipu Youth Trust and Whakatipu Wildlife Trust.

Rule says he’s encouraging other local companies to consider a similar initiative — he’s not aware of other trade businesses, at least, contributing the way they do.
