Wakatipu Hockey Club is calling for player registrations from anyone keen to play this season, including those new to the sport.

No experience is necessary, club president Shaun Tipson says — "our coaches will show new players what to do".

The club is entering its fourth season with its artificial turf at the Queenstown Events Centre which provides a great surface for both training and playing.

This season, starting in the second term, the club will field 10 primary school age teams, four high school teams (separate girls’ and boys’ teams) and a men’s team and a women’s team.

At the primary school level, grades are called FunSticks (years 1/2), MiniSticks (years 3/4), KiwiSticks (years 5/6) and KwikSticks (years 7/8).

The KwikSticks will play 11-a-side this year, up from 7-a-side last year.

The club’s hosting ‘learn skills and play games’ at the Events Centre on March 30 and April 6 and 13 — 11am-12pm for years 1-6 and 12-1pm for years 7 and 8 and high school students.

Registrations are open via wakatipuhockeyclub.co.nz
