Tibetan Buddhist monks Geshe Jamyang Sherab (left) and Karma Gyasey have returned to the resort for a third time to create a sand mandala.
The Tibetan Buddhist tradition involves creating and destroying mandalas made from coloured sand.
This year the monks are creating a Chenrezig Buddha mandala. Chenrezig is the buddha of compassion.
That was something everybody could do with a bit more of, organiser Kaari Schlebach said.
"In this day and age, if everybody had a little bit more compassion and understanding, the world would be a more peaceful place."
The 10-day event will culminate in a closing ceremony at 2pm on Sunday at 26 Arawata Tce, Sunshine Bay. Entry is free, but koha is welcome.
