The iwi-owned company, which runs several tourism ventures in the Wakatipu Basin, won the "Ha kai kei aku ringa for Maori Excellence in Export" award at a ceremony in Auckland last Thursday.
Sir Tipene O’Regan, who accepted the award on the company’s behalf, said that by sharing the iwi’s stories and stories from the regions where it operated, it could deliver an "authentic experience you can’t get anywhere else".
The company has more than 500 employees in 11 New Zealand businesses. Its international revenue has grown by a third in the past three years. In the Wakatipu, it owns Shotover Jet, Dart River Jet Safaris, Dart Stables, Glacier Southern Lakes Helicopters and Ultimate Hikes.
Ngai Tahu Tourism was one of 24 finalists in the 50th annual awards. The other finalists in its category were Kiwa Digital and Straker Translations.
