NZ Adviser – an online newsletter for mortgage and finance professionals – has chosen Josh Graham, a broker with Arrowtown-based Roost Mortgage Brokers, as one of its 15 35-or-under ‘young guns’ for 2020.
He’s written almost $50 million in loans in his third year as an adviser, boss Mark Pullar says, “which is a level many experienced advisers can only aspire to”.
It’s also a level that’s helped Roost become the South Island’s second-largest mortgage business, Pullar adds.
“We are rapt that Josh has been recognised for his outstanding contribution to the industry.
“It’s a tough gig for someone of his young years, and he is an inspiration for any young adviser coming into the industry.”
Graham’s talent appears to be mixing good financial knowhow with good people skills.
“I’ve always been a bit of a chatterbox,” he says.
However, he also deflects a lot of credit for his recognition to Roost owners Pullar, Toby Stanley and Pullar’s wife, business services manager Emma Pullar.
“They’ve got an absolutely outstanding reputation here and right throughout the country.
“The phone keeps ringing and I just keep getting delivered opportunities.”
Dunedin-raised Graham’s story is also one of perseverance.
Before joining Roost almost four years ago, he went for about 20 finance and accounting jobs, but, despite his university qualifications, “I just couldn’t quite get over the line”.
Perhaps scoring his current job was a case of a case of ‘coming home to Roost’.
