Improvement project begins

Lower Beach St in central Queenstown has been closed to traffic as preparatory work begins on the latest stage of the town centre upgrades project.

Queenstown Lakes District Council spokesman Jack Barlow said investigative work would take place on Upper and Lower Beach St over the next fortnight, after which installation of new underground services would begin.

The work is part of a project to improve walking and cycling facilities in a continuous route across the town centre from the Skyline Gondola in Brecon St to the Queenstown Gardens.
