But the Clutha-Southland backbench MP has made a surprise appearance on a preferred PM poll.
A One News poll obtained by Mountain Scene shows Walker is the sixth most popular National Party candidate for the top job, with 0.3 per cent support.
While marginal, it’s not actually that far behind National’s highest-ranking candidate, MP Judith ‘Crusher’ Collins, who’s on 6 per cent, and National leader Simon Bridges, who’s sitting on 5 per cent.
Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern was miles ahead on 45 per cent.
The poll, conducted between June 4 to 8, canvassed about 1000 people.
Whether the first-term MP will attempt to roll his boss is still to be determined.
In fairness, Walker has been making waves with several hot-button issues recently, such as the Lumsden Maternity Centre stoush and immigration backlogs.
