Gay Ski Week's organisers are breathing a sigh of relief - and turning their eyes towards 2012.

Sally Whitewoods and wife Mandy, of Queenstown, stepped up to the plate after the company which had organised the event for the past eight years was placed in liquidation.

Mrs Whitewoods said the week had been "fantastic", and the couple was now excited about bringing it back next year, as well as looking at a summer event.

She said they were looking at the possibility of a mardi gras-style event, to take place over a weekend, in addition to Gay Ski Week.

"It could be more of a family event in the summer, and at the end of the day we want the community to mix in. It's all about the fun. We are such a multicultural community, whether that be sexual orientation or race, so we should all come together."

High turnouts across all events culminated in Saturday night's white-out party, at which Sydney-based DJ Adam Love played without charge.

Other events included the opening party, a retro ski party, karaoke and Friday night's buff party.

Despite an increase in women turning up this year, Mrs Whitewoods also said they would be working to make the event more attractive to the lesbian market, instead of just focusing on gays.

They would also be looking to bring ticket prices down next year, and encourage bookings by making pre-sale tickets for events cheaper, she said.

Her plans for the immediate future?

"I think a lie-in tomorrow and then I'll be back to normal."
