The Shotover St outlet is investing in new gear to reduce its smoke and smell effects in the town centre.
General manager Stephen Bradley said the company was making a "significant investment" in a triple-pass electrostatic air cleaner that should create "99.9% efficiencies" in the amount of smoke it produces.
"It's a significant piece of equipment."
Other restaurants in the resort were looking at similar gear to reduce the amount of smoke they produced, something Mr Bradley said was "our duty to Queenstown".
He had initially hoped the air cleaner would be in place for winter, but it would now be installed and operating by Christmas.
The Otago Regional Council said it had received "a small number" of complaints about smoke pollution from Fergburger.
Environmental services manager Martin King said it was "working to resolve this issue in co-operation with the Queenstown Lakes District Council and Fergburger".
District council communications adviser Rebecca Pitts said it was helping the regional council with its investigation and would make a site visit soon.
