Family raises $80,000 to fly body home

Nearly $80,000 has been raised on crowdfunding website GoFundMe to fly home the body of an American man killed in a crash near Kingston on November 1.

In a post on the site, the family of Spencer Dow said they were in Invercargill to make arrangements to ''bring Spencer home''.

The 23-year-old died on November 1 when the car in which he was a passenger collided head-on with a bus carrying 14 people.

The driver, also a 23-year-old American, died a few days later in hospital.
