A long-awaited emergency response plan for Glenorchy is just weeks away.
The news comes a week after a brief but destructive weather bomb hit the Queenstown Lakes area, leaving many Glenorchy residents without power and the road to the township closed overnight.
The Glenorchy Community Emergency Plan is being prepared to assist the community with a timely and prepared response to threats such as earthquakes, flooding, and severe storms.
Queenstown emergency management officer Trevor Andrews said the plan was in the final draft stage, and would go out to the community board and volunteers in the next few weeks for review.
"There's been quite a bit of work done with the community in the past few months,'' he said.
"They've been very patient.''
He said the plan would bring Glenorchy's emergency response "into line'' with the rest of the Queenstown Lakes District.
He also said it would help to ease some of the concerns raised by Glenorchy residents over emergency response issues, such as communication and power cuts.
