Police were called to investigate after a drone was seen flying near Queenstown Airport yesterday.
Airways corporate communications manager Angela Lamont said staff at Queenstown Airport’s control tower were notified of the unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) flying about halfway between Queenstown and Frankton about 11am.
It’s the third such incident at the airport since August — and the second in three weeks.
On December 8 a commercial general aviation pilot, coming in to land at Queenstown Airport, spotted what was believed to be a drone near Jacks Point.
The Civil Aviation Authority has clear regulations around anyone flying remotely-piloted aircraft systems near airports. The maximum penalty is 12 months’ imprisonment, or a hefty fine.
