Drivers not getting message - police

Three arrests in as many days for alleged drink-driving shows some Queenstown locals are not getting the message, police say.

Senior Sergeant Paula Enoka, of Queenstown, made the comments after weekend arrests. Two people recorded breath-alcohol levels above 1000mcg and the third above 745mcg.

The arrests were made at police checkpoints at various locations in the resort.

``The fact we have had three in as many days shows me two things: people aren't getting the message and that police are in the right place at the right time.

``It is concerning we are locating and identifying a number of people who are choosing to drink and drive.''

On Friday at 10pm, a 26-year-old man from Queenstown was stopped on the Gorge Rd.

He recorded a breath-alcohol level of 745mcg.

Shortly after 11.30 on Saturday night police stopped a 25-year-old, also from the resort.

He recorded a breath-alcohol level of 1267mcg when stopped on Frankton Rd.

On Sunday a 19-year-old man was stopped on Lake Esplanade at about 3am.

He recorded a breath-alcohol level of 1007mcg.

Snr Sgt Enoka said all three men would appear in Queenstown District Court next Monday.
