A Queenstown construction manager caught driving at nearly five times the legal alcohol limit has been told he needs professional help for his alcohol issues.
Revell told police he was going home after drinking three beers at a Frankton pub, but had also been drinking earlier in the day.
He was sentenced in the Queenstown District Court yesterday after admitting a charge of drink-driving.
It is his second drink-driving conviction in the past four years.
Counsel Tanya Surrey said the defendant had made a "huge mistake" and a driving ban would have consequences for his employment.
Community magistrate Simon Heale told Revell he needed professional help to deal with "whatever it is that gets you behind the wheel" after he has been drinking.
That would be explored as part of a sentence of nine months’ supervision, during which he would be assessed for drug and alcohol issues.
He is also disqualified from driving for six months, after which he will be subject to a zero-alcohol licence.
