Money received in dividends by the Dunedin City Council from Aurora Energy should be plugged back into the firm, Queenstown Lakes Mayor Jim Boult says.
Mr Boult has been very critical of the electricity provider’s proposal to raise prices, most notably in Wanaka and Central Otago, to pay for upgrades.
Speaking at a council meeting this week, he said he "remained fundamentally unhappy with Aurora Energy".
He had written to Dunedin Mayor Aaron Hawkins to ask him if the Dunedin council would consider the idea.
Cr Quentin Smith said he believed Dunedin had treated his town, Wanaka, with disdain.
The council would write to the Commerce Commission to voice its frustration.
