Queenstown Lakes District Council sport and recreation manager Simon Battrick told the Otago Daily Times the company — which also worked on the Camp Glenorchy project — was expected to start work on the long-awaited facility at Jack Reid Park early next year.
It has taken more than 10 years to turn the project from a dream into a reality.
Earlier this week the ODT reported the last of the funding was now in place and work had finally begun on the building platform and services. Once that was complete the main construction phase could begin.
Funders include the QLDC, the Central Lakes Trust, Lottery Grants Board, Wilding Trust and Arrowtown Rugby Club.
Once finished, the building will include a bar and kitchen, changing rooms, showers, toilets and function spaces.
Improvements to the playing field are also under consideration in the council’s draft long-term plan, which will be subject to consultation during March and April next year.
