The Arrowtown camping ground is already taking bookings for the next  festive season.

Manager Vicki Robertson told the Otago Daily Times people were rebooking as part of their check-in or check-out process.

Many of the camping ground’s guests are from Dunedin or Invercargill and come back every year for the Christmas break.

The few spots left on Friday ahead of the New Year period were  snapped up quickly.

"It has been busy and things are ticking along. It is nice to see some familiar faces who come back year after year."

Invercargill man Daniel Townson, a regular visitor, said his family would stay all this week.

"It’s good to relax and take it easy," Mr Townson said. Dunedin woman Lisa Chisholm, also a longtime veteran of camping in Arrowtown, said she would continue her tradition of exploring a new part of the Wakatipu each year.

Previously she had been four-wheel-driving to Macetown; this year she aimed to drive into Skippers township, and was keeping fingers crossed for good weather.
