Aussie's odyssey of crime starts with fleeing taxi

An Australian man failed to pay for a taxi ride, then went to sleep in the wrong house.

After he was discovered there, he assaulted one of the occupants.

Sergeant Keith Newell said the 20-year-old, who lives in the resort, entered the Sunshine Bay home just after midnight on Saturday after doing a "runner'' from the taxi.

After he had "tucked himself into a bed", he assaulted one of the home's flatmates when confronted.

He was summoned to appear in court charged with assault, unlawfully being on a property and cannabis possession.

A man was caught driving yesterday only three hours after police told him to give it a rest for 12 hours.

Sgt Newell said the man's vehicle was impounded after he was stopped on Frankton Rd about 1.30pm.

At 10.30am, his vehicle narrowly missed an oncoming vehicle, spun around and crashed into a paddock on Malaghans Rd.

He admitted to falling asleep at the wheel.
