Arrest after driver disturbs residents

A suspected drink-driver recorded a reading more than three times the legal limit when breath-tested after disturbing Oueenstown residents by revving his engine in the early hours, police say.

Officers stopped a 45-year-old Queenstown man on Bridesdale Dr in Lake Hayes Estate just before 3.30am today.

The driver had reversed on to a curb and was seen slowly revving the car's engine.

Senior Sergeant Paula Enoka, of Queenstown, said the man was still in the driver's seat when officers arrived at the scene.

"It was in a residential location, somewhere that wouldn't have perhaps come to our attention.

"A resident has seen the driver and called police.''

The man gave a reading of 858mcg this morning and was due to appear in court on Monday.

His licence has been suspended for 28 days.
