Appeal over Queenstown assault

Police are looking for a man believed to have assaulted another man in a Queenstown street after he attempted to intervene in an argument.

A couple were involved in a dispute on Camp St at about 1.30am yesterday.

A passerby approached the couple to check on them and was allegedly punched in the face by the man involved in the argument, causing him to fall.

Police intend to check CCTV footage of the area.

Senior sergeant Paula Enoka, of Queenstown, called on any witnesses to contact police.

Meanwhile, a suspected drink driver is facing charges after being stopped at a checkpoint on Frankton Rd early yesterday.

Officers stopped a 37-year-old woman, who allegedly refused to give a blood sample, tried to get away and resisted officers.

She has been charged and is due to appear in court today.

Snr Sgt Enoka said police were "still not happy'' with the number of people being caught drink-driving.

"We are picking them up all the time.

"Save some money for that bus or taxi and if you are out with friends, make sure you are keeping your mates safe.''

Police also found a vehicle on the side of Glenorchy Rd, just past the Sunshine Bay turn-off, about 5.30am on Sunday.

The vehicle appeared to have been involved in a crash.

Police are still trying to trace the driver.
