Alert for parents over suspicious game show posts

Police are urging parents to monitor their children's social media activity following suspicious posts on Queenstown and Wanaka Facebook groups.

The posts, published by two different user accounts, called for children willing to be ''gunged'' as part of a new game show.

One of the posts claimed the game show would be on Instagram, and was being brought to New Zealand from the United Kingdom.

A separate post said the game show was called Get Even.

Both accounts behind the posts appear to have been deleted.

In a statement police said they had not received any specific complaints, but were aware of the posts and ''others of a similar nature''.

''We advise parents to keep a close eye on their children's social media activity.

''Police recommend that members of the community do not engage with this person,'' they said.

Police encouraged parents to talk with their children about potential risks online and what information they were sharing.

Further information on online safety was available through NetSafe, police said.
