‘Wonky Donkey’ man finalist in children’s music awards


Queenstown author and musician Craig Smith has once again been a finalist in the Ngā Manu Tīrairaka NZ Children’s Music Awards.

Mr Smith and 9-year old daughter Maia Amor-Smith were finalists in the APRA best children’s song - primary category, for The Stinky Wonky Donkey.

The pair finished up in second-equal place, alongside fellow finalists Michal Bush and Jeremy Dillon, for Beige, performed by Bush and Moe Steph Brown.

The 2024 primary category award was won by Fen Ikner, for Because, performed by Little Lips.

Mr Smith previously won the APRA New Zealand children’s song of the year in 2008 for The Wonky Donkey, and again in 2018 for The Scariest Thing in the Garden.

The winners of the NZ Children's Music Awards were announced at an invite-only ceremony at Spark Arena, Auckland, on Sunday May 5.
