‘Looking for the red lights’

A woman suspected of taking drugs told a Queenstown Airport security guard she was "looking for the red lights" shortly before her vehicle was pulled over by police yesterday.

Sergeant Steve Watt said the security guard saw the 30-year-old local woman acting suspiciously in the airport’s car park about 4am.

After speaking to her, he called the police, who stopped her vehicle near the airport, in Lucas Pl, a short time later.

"She said she was on a treasure hunt, looking for the red lights," Sgt Watt said.

Although she passed a breath-screening test, she failed a compulsory impairment test, and was taken to the police station for a blood test.

Police would await the result before laying charges.

"We take an extremely hard line with regards to impaired driving."
