After six years of waiting, Loris King, of Wanaka, has watched her spectacular Cardiocrinum giganteum, or giant Himalayan lily, flower this week.
Ms King said she planted it about 12 years ago and this was only the second time it had flowered.
Ms King said the lily, with large heart-shaped leaves and about 2.5m tall, was reputed to have a very pleasant smell, but getting close enough to appreciate it required a stepladder.
