Police were notified of the crash at 8.30am but Arrowtown community senior constable Beth Fookes said the accident occurred at 1.30am this morning on Manse Street.
The car is registered to a woman living on Manse St and police are yet to locate her.
Snr Const Fookes said the car had veered off the road and impacted with "a very solid retaining wall" before ending up on its roof and blocking three quarters of the road.
