Woman falls into transfer station pit

A Queenstown woman was taken to Lakes District Hospital with a broken arm after an accident at the Frankton Transfer Station yesterday.

Queenstown Lakes District Council solid waste manager Stefan Borowy said the woman was unloading material from her trailer when she was distracted by another user, lost her footing and fell about 2m into a loading pit.

It was the second time in 10 years a person had fallen into a loading pit at the transfer station.

The Department of Labour, the council, and Otago Southland Waste Services are investigating the accident.
