The conjurer, who recently moved from Christchurch to Oamaru, transported himself to Queenstown yesterday afternoon to put a spell on the latest addition to the camping ground, after performing a similar role when the camp opened 23 years ago.
He said park owners Tonnie and Erna Spijkerbosch were kindred spirits in the fight against mundane architecture and "all the brainwashed modernists".
He particularly admired gothic grotesques Jack and Jane, who welcome visitors to the oast house.
They are named after an English couple who are regular visitors to the camp.
"It's Tonnie's calling to build a new and exciting, weird and peculiar caravan park - with the help of Erna, the Great Manipulator, who runs Queenstown on the quiet when no-one's looking," the Wizard ended his address to the 80-odd birthday wellwishers gathered for the blessing and birthday celebration.
