The first road reports of the season from the Queenstown Lakes District Council warned drivers of the likelihood of ice, grit and general "winter conditions".
The reports are part of the council's winter maintenance plan and consist of daily information about road closures and advice. They are being posted before 7am on Twitter, Facebook and the council's website. Council communications officer Jo Blick said the service would run until the end of winter.
"We trialled it last year in various forms and have refined the process since then."
